Groundworks and Foundations

We began by excavating to 300mm depth, removing the old surface and creating a stable base for the new driveway. Our team installed 300mm of MOT Type 1 sub-base — 40% deeper than standard industry practice — which was mechanically compacted in layers to create an exceptionally strong foundation that will last for decades.

We integrated an ACO linear drainage system at the entrance to manage surface water effectively, directing it away from the property. The drainage channels were carefully positioned to handle Edinburgh's frequent rainfall while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the design.

Paving, Materials, and Finishing Details

Materials Used: Tobermore Shannon Duo Charcoal block paving provides a sophisticated, contemporary finish with excellent durability. The dual-size blocks create visual interest and enhance the driveway's premium appearance. We added contrasting decorative borders using complementary paving to frame the design beautifully.

Lighting Integration: Professional low-voltage LED lighting was installed along the borders, providing elegant illumination for evening arrival and departure. The lighting system is energy-efficient and designed to last for years with minimal maintenance.

Finishing Touches: After laying and compacting the blocks, we applied kiln-dried jointing sand, ensuring all joints were fully filled. The entire surface was plate-compacted and swept multiple times to achieve a flawless finish. Edge restraints were installed and concealed to maintain clean lines and prevent lateral movement.
