Block paving — usually same day

Block paving does not need to cure. Once the blocks are laid, vibrated, and jointed with kiln-dried sand, the surface is mechanically locked together and ready to take a car. We do suggest avoiding sharp, heavy turning for the first couple of weeks while the jointing sand settles fully, but everyday parking is fine straight away.

Resin-bound — wait 24 to 72 hours

Resin-bound surfaces are mixed and trowelled on site, then need time to cure chemically. They are usually safe to walk on within a few hours but should not take vehicle weight for 24–72 hours. Scotland's cooler, damper conditions slow curing, so we always give you the safe minimum for the actual weather on the day rather than a textbook figure.

Tarmac — give it several days

Tarmac is walkable quite quickly but stays soft as it cools and cures. We recommend keeping vehicles off for several days and avoiding turning the steering while stationary, which can scuff a fresh surface. Heavy point loads such as motorbike stands or trailer jockey wheels should be kept off for longer.
